The Last Neocons On The Island MATT PURPLE

The Last Neocons On The Island Those saying all we need to do is stay in Afghanistan a little longer both tip their hands and demonstrate their lack of seriousness. If you want to understand the delusions that permeated the early-stage war on terror, pick up a copy of An End to Evil by Richard Perle and David Frum. Published in 2004, it reads like a fever dream one might have after playing Age of Empires on fast mode right before bed. Iraq? Saddam indicted not just himself “but all Arab tyrannies and all of their supporters.” Syria? “Why have we put up with it as long as we have?” (The entire country, apparently.) Everyone from the South Koreans to the peacekeepers in 1994 Rwanda are presented as appeasers for having failed to sufficiently confront evil. Against all this criminality and co

Town band celebrates with a free concert

Town band celebrates with a free concert Monday, 21 June 2021 - Events WHEN the sound of music wafts across Wiveliscombe Recreation Ground on Wednesday evening (June 23), it will be history in the making as the town band marks its 125th anniversary with a free open-air concert, writes Sue Michinson. The brass band players will be giving their all to celebrate the historic occasion, part of a success story that began in 1896, when a member of the local military Volunteer Yeomanry started what was then the town’s third brass band. In spite of two world wars and in recent times the pandemic, it has survived and is thriving, now under Director of Music Chris Grabham, 23, who took over its leadership in 2017 while he was still in college. “We’re firing on all cylinders again and getting back to where we were before the pandemic, with a very busy, wonderful buzz,” said Chris. “The anniversary concert will be a balance of well-loved and modern work – moving in a modern direction but not for

New research shows drastic climate effects of even a ”limited” nuclear war by Christina MacPherson

New research shows drastic climate effects of even a ”limited” nuclear war by Christina MacPherson Climate Change from Nuclear War’s Smoke Could Threaten Global Food Supplies, Human Health,  https://www.miragenews.com/climate-change-from-nuclear-wars-smoke-could-632826/ Rutgers University, 15 Sep 21, Nuclear war would cause many immediate fatalities, but smoke from the resulting fires would also cause climate change lasting up to 15 years that threatens worldwide food production and human health, according to a study by researchers at Rutgers University, the National Center for Atmospheric Research and other institutions. The study appears in the Journal of Geophysical Research – Atmospheres. Scientists have long understood that nuclear weapons used on cities and industrial areas could initiate large-scale fires whose massive amounts of smoke injected into the stratosphere could cause global climate change, leading to the term “nuclear winter.” But in the new study, researchers for t

The Media Is Lying About Greenland and Climate Change By Vijay Jayaraj

The Media Is Lying About Greenland and Climate Change By Vijay Jayaraj  by aletho:Real Clear Energy | September 13, 2021 The mainstream media is hell-bent on instilling climate fear among the masses. This means that they can never get over their obsession with weather events in the Arctic, which is one of their favorite subjects for projecting a climate catastrophe. The Greenland Ice Sheet has been of great interest to climate alarmists. Any small change in ice sheet mass is promoted in the media as a product of man-made climate change. Last week, media outlets across the globe claimed that there has been rain for the first time at the Greenland summit. “Rain fell at the normally snowy summit of Greenland for the first time on record,” read CNN’s headlines. Others went a step further and declared it a sign of climate doomsday. “Rain On Greenland Ice Sheet, Possibly A First, Signals Climate Change Risk,” read another headline. Unfortunately, for the mainstream media, climate history n

Government urged to reject Hinkley ‘fish-killing machine’

Government urged to reject Hinkley ‘fish-killing machine’ Friday, 3 September 2021 - Community News A GOVERNMENT minister was this week urged to reject a change in plans which, campaigners claim, would lead to an estimated 182 million fish a year being sucked through the cooling systems at Hinkley Point C nuclear power station after it comes into service in 2026. Station owners EDF Energy have applied to the Environment Agency for permission to drop plans for a series of underwater speakers designed to produce sound frequencies which could deter fish from entering two giant tunnels which will suck up 120,000 litres of water a second. EDF claims that installing an ‘acoustic fish deterrent’ (AFD ) system would be too risky for its divers and other workers, and that other methods - including fitting grilles, slowing down the cooling water and returning fish sucked into the system - would be more effective. EDF is seeking a variation on the original planning permission which stipulated tha

The MoU calls for downblending activities to begin in 2022 using Norway's existing infrastructure, followed by the eventual deployment of the DOE's Mobile Melt-Consolidate system. The MoU was signed in the USA by Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm and in Norway by Minister of Trade and Industry Iselin Nybø, and is the next step in a process that began in 2019, when the melt processing method was first discussed on the sidelines of a meeting in Norway. Since then, technical experts on both sides

Italy launches national debate on waste repository

A total of 67 potential host locations for facility have been identified (Image: Sogin) Italy launches national debate on waste repository 08 September 2021 The opening plenary session of Italy's National Seminar, which aims at deepening the analysis of the technical aspects related to the national repository for radioactive waste and technological park project with all interested parties, was held yesterday. The National Seminar, a series of consultative meetings, follows the publication in January of a list of 67 potential sites for a radioactive waste storage facility. Following approval by the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of the Territory and the Sea, Societa Gestione Impianti Nucleari SpA (Sogin) - the Italian state-owned company responsible for dismantling the country's nuclear power plants - published on 5 January the National Charter of Potentially Suitable Areas (CNAPI) to host the national radioactive waste stor
