Capitalism: How does Elon Mask reflect it? (3)

By Jamal Abou El Hassan On February 6, the world was struck by amazing news: a private company, SpaceX, had successfully sent one of the largest rockets (Falcon Hefei) into space. The news reflects economic and technological breakthrough in all senses. In the past, space was an exclusive space for governments. The reason is the high cost of space projects, and the associated rare research and scientific capabilities available only to governments. In the 1960s, the United States spent 4% of the federal budget on space projects. Today, space is about to become a private industry accepted by companies and individuals. There are those who are expected to be the first "trillionaires" in the world (anyone with a billion dollars) to be one of the pioneers of this nascent space industry. The story of SpaceX, owned by Elon Mask, embodies the "spirit of capitalism" more than any lecture or book dealing with this economic system that stands behind scientific and technolo

Buffett’s initial investment in Israel was in 2006, when his company Berkshire Hathaway bought an 80% stake in Iscar, an industrial toolmaker for $4 billion. In May 2013, Berkshire Hathaway  bought  the remaining 20% of the business for $2 billion. At the time he called Israel the “most promising investing hub outside of the United States.” According to Berkshire Hathaway’s most recent filing, Buffett has invested in Israel’s pharmaceutical giant, Teva, which has been struggling of late, breaking with a longtime hesitation to invest in biotech stocks. Berkshire Hathaway bought a 1.9% stake in th

Haley Blasts Russia for Vetoing Resolution Condemning Iran for Violating Embargo of Houthi Rebels

Despite “overwhelming evidence” presented in recent weeks by a United Nations panel of experts demonstrating that Iran has not prevented the transfer of arms to the Houthi rebels in Yemen, Russia’s veto “protected the terrorist-sponsoring regime in Iran,” Nikki Haley, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations said in a statement Monday. Eleven of the 15 states on the council voted in favor of the condemnation, however, Russia was able to veto the resolution with its vote as it is one of the five permanent member of the Security Council. A second permanent member of the council, China abstained from the vote. Haley suggested that in light of the Security Council’s failure to hold Iran responsible for its refusal to observe the boycott of the Houthis, that the U.S., together with allies, could conceivably take action against Iran to punish the Islamic Republic. “If Russia is going to use its veto to block action against Iran’s dangerous and destabilizing conduct,” Haley
