John Bolton: North Korea must remove its nuclear weapons outside its territory
US National Security Adviser John Bolton said in a television interview that North Korea must remove its nuclear weapons outside its territory as a precondition for lifting sanctions.
In an interview with ABC News, Bolton reviewed the steps that North Korea should take before Washington lifts sanctions.
"The North Korean nuclear disarmament process involves eliminating uranium and plutonium processing capabilities," Bolton said, adding that disarmament also includes ballistic missiles.
Bolten said these steps should take place only a few months before the lifting of US economic sanctions.
The US national security adviser said North Korea's nuclear weapons could be transferred to the WMD processing center in Tennessee for disposal there.
North Korea has said it will shut down the nuclear tunnel it used to conduct nuclear tests from May 23 to 25, as part of steps ahead of a summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump in June to discuss Pyongyang's nuclear weapons.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo praised the move, but it seems that the move is not enough for Washington, which wants to make sure Pyongyang already wants to get rid of all its weapons of mass destruction.
North Korea says it does not need nuclear weapons if its regime obtains security guarantees from the United States.
